It was only about 20 minutes into the episode, then, that it became clear the victim was Lexie, who had been crushed under part of the plane that crashed in the woods. It was an intense death.
I get that Ms. Could it have been someone less important somehow? I guess it would have been too obvious to do Kepner. And, actually, it was the cynical doctor who provided the most refreshing commentary on a situation that was so insane and outlandish, especially when you consider how many insane and outlandish situations the Seattle Grace doctors have been through over their eight seasons.
We keep dying. The meta-commentary from Cristina was really the only thing that kept me from going off the deep end about all the events happening, really. Because, like, how many tragedies can these surgeons go through?
To be honest, the whole plane crash played so, so very crazy. The pre-credits segment of the episode — which was released earlier in the week — felt almost like it was ripped out of The Blair Witch Project , with its shaky, shrieky style. And, truly, where was Walt, the polar bear, and the smoke monster? Clearly, I was getting major Lost vibes out of this particular plane crash, too. I mean, I cried for hours after we had finished filming, just letting it go. It's letting go a part of yourself, but I think it was handled really well.
I thought it was a beautiful way to go. In true Grey's fashion, Lexie's exit was dramatic and heartbreaking. Lexie was trapped under a piece of the aircraft, and ultimately didn't survive. She spent her final moments with Mark, who was also tragically killed in the crash.
Lexie is returning to Grey's in the upcoming April 1 episode! Chyler's Lexie is the latest former Grey's Anatomy character to return from the dead to visit Meredith on her magical "beach," a limbo-like place where she's passing the time as she drifts in and out of consciousness while battling COVID Fan-favorites T. Knight and Patrick Dempsey have also appeared on the beach this season as their late characters George and Derek, respectively.
In a promo video for the April 1 episode, we find Meredith on the beach, dipping her feet in the ocean, when suddenly someone hands her a towel. Ahh—it's Lexie! The clip declares Lexie "the surprise beach guest you've been waiting for," and goes on to show Meredith telling her half-sister, "I like it here. This was not an easy decision. But it was a decision that Chyler and I came to together. As far as I'm concerned Chyler will always remain a part of the Shondaland family and I can't wait to work with her again in the future," she shared.
Well, it seems the future is here! Many of us may recognize Chyler from other projects.
